This last week!

We are doing good! This last week has been CRAZY. Jeff had a really intense test on Thursday and probably studied over 30 hours for it. Poor guy didn't even see Evelyn on Monday, by the time he got home Evelyn was sleeping.
Evelyn got flu a shot on Tuesday. She was a running a fever that night :( BOOOOOO. We'll see if she gets a flu shot next year. We did get to see Daddy that day just for dinner though!
Wednesday was a day with just Evelyn and I! She was pretty needy all day and just wanted to be held and she still wasn't feeling too well, she had a fever of about 102 but I guess that's pretty normal after the flu shot. Poor Evelyn and daddy did not get to see each other again on Wed. I don't think Jeff got home til 9:30. On Thursday she seemed to be doing pretty good but she had a rough time going down for her nap and she woke up shortly after and cried, cried, and cried. For 4 hours straight! I have a whole new appreciate for mothers who have colicky babies. I finally had the genius idea to go to the park because she LOVES being outside, and loves see dogs. That made her happy! Jeff came home that night and we enjoyed dinner together.
Jeff didn't have school on friday so he was able to work out and do some things for himself. We went to the park together as a family and then it was time to get ready for Trunk or treat. Evelyn didn't really understand it and there were a lot of people around, but she was so cute in her lady bug costume! She got a lot of candy and she loves anything Chocolate, but Reese's are her absolute favorite! She gets a piece of candy every day for dessert.
Saturday we went to a little pumpkin patch near our house. They had a lot of rides and activities. Evelyn was able to go through the petting zoo filled with roosters, goats, and bunnies. She of course loved it! Then she went on her first ride, it was miniature swings. She was able to go all by herself, she didn't like it or dislike it which I would consider a success. We were also able to go down the big bouncy slide, she really liked that!
Monday was Halloween! Evelyn and I had a good day and just played. When Daddy got home we had our Halloween themed dinner which included Mummy Dogs (hotdogs that look like mummies with crescent rolls) and dracula apples (Apples that look like teeth) and orange fries (sweet potato fries). It was a fun dinner and then we went trick or treating! Evelyn LOVED it and she totally understood. She would hold her pumpkin and go right up to the person and hold her pumpkin out for candy and then she would laugh and get so excited. She totally new what was going on! It was so fun to watch and probably my favorite halloween! Overall, we are doing well we love and miss you guys!

Grateful to be POOR!

Because I have a lot of time to sit and contemplation I recently realized I'm grateful to be poor! I'm poor so I stay at home and play with my daughter, and come up with creative activities to do and not just buy expensive toys. Evelyn is so young she doesn't know the difference. Luckily, most of my friends are poor so we are all in the same boat. I have realized the miracles that happen when you pay tithing. I am learning the art of couponing and price matching. I am grateful for our Honda Accords that each have over 200,000 miles on them. I am learning that life is just as much fun in target, forever 21, and old navy clothes, as it is in Nordstoms clothes (who knew?) :)! I cook delicious meals for my family instead of going out to eat. We spend time with family when we have time off instead of going on vacation (okay, I would LOVE to go on a vacation but I'm trying to look at the glass half full). I appreciate things a WHOLE lot more. When we finally have money I will actually know what it's like to not have any! Obviously we are not living on the streets and living off of a dollar a day, and I know that there are people WAY worse off then we are. I'm just grateful that I'm learning some valuable lessons, I think everybody should struggle some time in life. You realize that you can be happy no matter what!

Also you gain an incredible testimony on how the Lord will provide for you when you are doing what he would have you do. Having Evelyn was the scariest thing, I didn't know how I was going to finish school, didn't know how we were going to pay the bills, we didn't know anything. However, we did know that we were not supposed to postpone having children so we went forward with faith. The miracles have poured in ever since. One of those miracles is being poor but still having every thing I need and being happier than I have ever been! In the end FAMILY, FRIENDS, and knowing WHY you are here and WHO brought you here is what will bring you true eternal happiness... even if your poor.

I like to BONK!

Evelyn has a tooth! Enough that I can finally snap a picture of it. I love that she is getting teeth FINALLY. However, I don't like that she falls she always cuts her upper mouth, she bled twice today. NOT FUN! She is pretty tough though.

My daughter LOVES violence so I accidently bonked my head and she thought it was the funniest thing ever. So of course like any mother would do I kept doing it, and she kept laughing. Evelyn discovered that she could BONK her head too, and OH BOY she thought that was even funnier. I love her so much. Evelyn is the one person that can smile and ALWAYS make me smile back.

Life would be easier if....

Lately I have been thinking about how much easier life would be if I didn't CONSTANTLY compare. I am a compare-aholic. I compare every thing. My husband, my daughter, and don't even get me started on myself. Is it just me? Does every one else compare this much?
I need to give you examples so you realize how crazy this is for me. I compare not only what other girls my age look like, but their weight, their legs, their hair, what they wear, their husbands, their life. I want you to understand I don't do it because I want to be better then them. I don't dislike some one if they are prettier, skinnier, more fashionable...etc, etc, etc. But I kind of beat myself up over it. Like why can't I be like that? Is it just me?
My new goal for myself is stop! stop! stop! Stop comparing not just me but my family. Thanks for the inspiration Elder Uchtdorf. "Don't compare your weaknesses to other peoples strengths." I need to be happy NOW, which I am don't get me wrong I'm very happy but I think if I stopped comparing I could be EVEN happier.

Walking!!!!! Well.... pretty close.

Evelyn is going to be moving in NO time. I thought she was still my 5 pound baby who slept all the time. Please notice that she will ONLY walk to Mommy.

The whole month of August!

I am so far behind that I'm going to do condense the last month so I can just be caught up! Jeff's mom Vivian came to help us move from Orem, to Vegas she was a huge help watching Evelyn, cleaning, and helping with packing. Also she drove one of our cars down to Vegas. When we arrived in Vegas Jeff's dad and brother, T.J. came to help unpack! My cousins Jason and Jessica came to help too. We had every thing out of the truck in an hour or so! Jeff's family stayed for 2 days and were a huge help, moving furniture and watching Evelyn so I could actually organize!

Jeff's parents left and we spent the next couple of days getting the house in order and getting things done that needed to: getting our NV drivers license, setting up internet, cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning. Once we were all done with that we headed to California for a week and half long vacation! It was so nice to spend time with family. We spent a couple days at Jen's (Jeff's sister) we went to the beach a couple of times which Evelyn loved! We were also able to go to a couple of our close friend's weddings while we were in CA. The night before we left we had an early birthday party for Evelyn. Apparently she does not like cake!

Jeff had orientation the week before school started. It was a good way for him to meet the other guys in his class. There are a lot that came from Utah probably like 25 or so! There are a lot the students who have children and wives so I am sure we will become close friends. The school hosted a BBQ and I got to meet a lot of them!
Labor day weekend we had visitors! Our close friends Allan and Sandy came to visit from Provo. We went to the strip a couple of times and tried Serendipity! We looked at the casino's and enjoyed their company.
Finally, Jeff started school last Monday, it will be really hard, the first 2 years and especially this first year but Jeff is pretty confident that if he manages his time he will survive. He is taking like 14 classes which is like 25 credits or something ridiculous like that! Poor Jeff got sick on Saturday it was like a 24 hour stomach flu. We are just grateful that he got sick on the weekend and not during the actually week!
Well EVELYN IS 1!!! Her birthday was last Thursday and we had my aunt and uncle and my cousins over for her birthday I made her cookies and she wouldn't eat those either but she did eat a Chips A'hoy Cookie! She opened all her presents and was playing with them and had a great time! Evelyn has her first tooth, and she is now on formula! Going onto formula has been quite the process though. We tried whole milk every way imaginable chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, I added sugar, and even tried watering it down. None of it worked she would throw up or refuse to take it. So then I switched to formula which lasted for about a week and then she started throwing up every time she had it. When I say throw up, I mean throw up, not spit up! Finally we discovered Soy Formula and she is doing fine. We think her little body just can't handle it yet.
I have been staying busy cleaning this house! I also try and get out every day! I'm getting pretty good at knowing where things are around town. I have discovered that Las Vegas has incredible shopping. I just like to look! We are doing well and enjoying ourselves here!

I'm not very good at this...

I'm not very good at this whole blogging thing. I mean I just never think I have anything to blog about... I mean what do I write Evelyn pooped in the bath tub again! No one wants to hear that!?
And my life just consists of her pretty much so it's not like I have anything to report. Jeff has the most excitement but he is just working, working, working, playing Tiger Woods golf, and working!
I thought Evelyn had eating down. Apparently I was WRONG!!!!

Who needs crawling when I army crawl

Evelyn does not want to crawl. However, she does want to scoot, army crawl, or whatever you would like to call it! Here she is in action!

Life is good!

Memorial Day weekend my grandparents came to visit from Nevada. They had not met their great granddaughter yet, so we were very excited for them to come. We had so such a good time and as you can see Evelyn was also very excited. She was very good with them.

We went and visited some graves, which was actually really nice. We enjoyed our visit very much.

Life is good. Life is really good. We have friends that we love, we have a beautiful daughter, we have everything we need. (not everything we want) I don't have any complaints.

Evelyn's squeal Laugh!

Jeff was playing with Evelyn tonight and she is usually a happy baby, but it is difficult to get her to laugh. Well tonight Jeff found how to make Evelyn laugh harder than I have EVER heard her!

I had to copy Daddy and see if I could get her to laugh too! See if I was a success....

I may be biased, but I don't care who you are that makes you smile!

Ya know just the usual...RANDOM

We have not been up to a whole lot around here but it has been a good week. I'm trying to be better about not watching AS much TV. When Evelyn was born she slept ALLLLLLLL the time. LITERALLY. For the first 2-3 months. So what did I do, I watched a TON of TV. However, now she is more active and we can do more. I am trying to not have it on, a lot of the time I had it on as some background noise. Plus, a lot of the shows I watch are just stupid (yes, I admit it). Before I know it Evelyn will realize what I am watching and be able to understand and that is not good!
Another random thing is Evelyn has learned how to clap! However, she does it at the most random and funny times. She always claps while I'm changing her diaper, "Thanks mom, you are doing a great job!" And then today she clapped while I was getting dressed and when I was basically in my birthday suit (sorry if that is too much information) she looked at me and started clapping! It was like she was saying nice job mom! It made me laugh out loud SO funny!

New favorite snack: Peanut Butter Captain Crunch, delicious!!!! Anyone else snack on random stuff????
Pet Peeve: When I get myself a snack food (PBCC) and then Jeff eats it!! I need to start hiding my food! haha!

Almost done. Jeff is growing a beard. I hate kissing a beard. However, it doesn't look too bad, it's a short beard...But I still do not like kissing a beard. Wait wait he just came out of the bathroom with a chin strap. I am speechless.

Last random thing. We watched a little girl tonight around 20 months. Evelyn loved watching her she was so entertained. Jeff thinks Evelyn needs a sibbling. After 2 hours I was tired.

MOMS I NEED YOU!!!!

Okay, I know there are books out there ALL about sleeping schedules, and so forth. However, I have enjoyed cuddling my little girl to sleep for the past 8 months or so. Well 2 weeks ago we decided we needed to start putting her in her crib when she needed to go to sleep. Well everyone said oh she'll cry for the first little bit but it will get better. Well it is NOT getting better. She cries for 45 minutes to an hour EVERY night.
It is SO bad that Jeff can't handle it sometimes. I do think it is my fault because I still hold her for naps. My question is do I just need to let her cry for naps too? Is it all or nothing? I have loved cuddling her to sleep but I feel like (sadly) it is time for her to learn how to fall asleep on her own.
I could use some advice, because this is tough.

Hiking, outdoors, and other Oswell Fun!

Last weekend we hiked the "Y." I have been here for 2 and half years and had never done it so we did it! It was beautiful outside and I was sick of being inside so we took advantage of the weather and did the STEEP short hike. It was really fun and Evelyn really enjoyed it. She was in our front carrier facing out and she was kicking and smiling and every one we passed. After using the front carrier (Jeff was, not me) we decided we really need a hiking back pack. Any suggestions? (Kira, I know you have one, do you like it?) Anyway, poor Jeff was sweating so bad and his back was hurting carrying Evelyn, one of her pigtails was wet from Daddy's sweat!
Can you tell Evelyn loved the hike? We got up to the Y just in time for sunset! It was beautiful and a really nice night out. We enjoyed sitting at the top for awhile and enjoying the views. However, it was around 8:00 and that is Ev's bed time so we headed down shortly.
After the hike we went to Coldstone to cancel out the hike completely! Boy was it yummy though! Evelyn was sleeping :)
Well last week we had beautiful weather 75 and sunny! Perfect weather to enjoy the outdoors. So I would bring some toys out for Evelyn and we would sit outside and enjoy. Evelyn LOVES being outside she played on this blanket for 2-3 hours before she finally couldn't stay awake any longer! By the way, if you were wondering, YES Evelyn is wearing adorable Jellies! They go with every thing and are very practical and that is how I justified the purchase!
Evelyn's friend Linkin came over and they played together for a couple of hours as well! She loves having friends over. AND mommy LOVES having Linkin's mom over so we can chat and have some girl time. I need that...some mom's can do it 24/7 with out other girls, but I need to feel like a 23 year old some times and not a frumpy mom! :)
In other news the reason I have been behind in blogging is my car. I had to finally bite the bullet and registar my car in Utah which means my car had to pass emissions! My check engine light has literally been on for 3 years. My car has always ran fine, except on long car trips it struggles a little bit. But for the most part my 98' Honda with 190,000 miles on it, is a CHAMP. However, you can not pass emissions in Utah with the light on! So I take it to a mechanic and ask him to shut it off for me and see if I can go long enough without it coming back on that I could pass emissions. Well he shut it off and also informed me that I needed a new windshield to pass the safety test. Great, awesome, put it on my Tab.
So I went and got my windshield taken care of, which I was hoping insurance would cover but it didn't so that was kinda of expensive. Then my check engine light came back on... Great. I go back to the mechanic and he tells I have to get it fixed and it was 2 different things the catilac converter and something with the vtec. So he shuts my check engine light off one more time and told me to drive one more time and see if I could luck out since we really couldn't afford to fix it.
If you are hoping for a miracle, so was I. When the light came back on I was thinking, there was NO miracle. But I went back to the mechanic and the light said it was only my catilac converter this time NO vtec problem. MIRACLE? I think so! I got it fixed and finally passed emissions. YAY!
In other news we are trying to teach evelyn to clap and high five.

Sickness, friends, mothers, and weddings

I would have to say that if I wasn't fighting being sick ALL week I think I would have had a REALLY good week. I did not have a fever anymore as of Wednesday but my throat was hurting still and then yesterday (Sunday) my voice was gone. My voice was whispering, squeaks, and manly. However, this morning I am feeling better and my voice is coming back so that means I can be more active this week and actually enjoy the beautiful weather we are supposed to have.
Jeff was busy with work. He worked 4, 10 hour days and then on Friday just 8 hours. Needless to say he was tired and sick of answering calls. I know most of you are so excited that the Lakers lost. Jeff is handling it well. We both think that the Lakers are tired I mean they have made it to the Championships the last 3 years and won 2, so we can't be too upset. We are still Laker fans and like I said I know most of you HATE them, and we are okay with that too! I am now hoping any one will win except the Heat!
Thursday we celebrated Cinco Damio (don't judge the spelling please). I tried to make cafe Rio EVERYTHING! I made the sweet pork, the rice, and the dressing. I thought it turned out really well! It was fun to spend time with some friends as well. We also played catch phrase which is always fun. That game is classic, we played it in high school and LOVED it and 6 years later still love it.
We relaxed friday! On Saturday, I had a bridal shower and a reception. The reception was so fun because it was my friend Mike's, from BYU Idaho. I got to see so many people that I have not seen forever and it was so fun to catch up.
Mother's Day was so nice. Evelyn made me a card and it was so cute. She held the markers and Daddy helped her make the card. It is adorable. Then my sweet friend Sarah, invited us over for dinner so I didn't have to cook. The ham was delicious and so were the desserts. I love Mother's Day it is just a nice day to reflect on the mother's in your life and how much they molded who you are. Evelyn is hungry so I better go!

Good Reminder...

Is it just me, or do you get caught up in the day to day life and sometimes take for granted your own life? Then out of NO WHERE you hear a story or some one you know goes through something difficult and you stop and think about how grateful you are for your own blessings. I have had a couple of those situations this week that make me stop and hug my husband a little longer, and give Evelyn even more .(if that is even possible)

I don't mean to sound like I am bragging but I have exactly what I want in life (okay, okay, not EVERYTHING but everything that is important). I have a loving, understanding husband, a beautiful daughter who was not difficult to get here, the gospel which centers my life, and we are poor, but we have everything I need.

I am guilty of taking things for granted and not appreciating my life as much as I should. Tender mercies today are taking naps with Evelyn, Jeff's text messages while he is working, the beautiful weather, and finally my testimony.

Tender Mercies

So unfortunately I haven't been feeling well this week. On Monday I went to the BYU indoor track and went running. My throat was kind of hurting but I just chalked it up to not drinking enough water. I also had a headache, but I just thought well I ran I must just be light headed and hungry. Well, all day it was just getting worse and worse. I had a pounding headache that wouldn't go away and then I had the body aches and body temperature problems. However, I have had so many tender mercies since I have been sick .

Tender Mercy #1. I have a wonderful husband who when gets home from working 10 HOURS and he takes over and does EVERY THING, so I can rest.

Tender Mercy #2. Evelyn has been SO GOOD this week yesterday she played on the carpet for hours while I sat and watched her and she was not fussy.

Tender Mercy #3. Evelyn has also been taking really good naps in the afternoon so I can nap too!

Tender Mercy #4. Evelyn is just so cute that even though I felt crappy she still makes me smile1

Oswell's Update

We had such a fun weekend, well for us it was fun. Life gets a little less exciting once you have a baby. On friday I went to Macy's (grocery store) and got " The Switch" at the red box, it is the one with Jennifer Aniston and she has a baby. It was a cute movie, not great, but very cute. I was also trying to be kind of cute so I picked up a DELICIOUS bag of kettle corn and got us some soda for the movie. So we had a great at home date, which is exactly what I needed. After having everyone here for graduation it was so lonely last week, and I just needed some time to myself. It was just what the doctor ordered.

On Saturday we went up to Salt Lake to go to Hatch Family Chocolates. The owners of the store had a show on TLC called "Little Chocolatiers." Because of the show I have always wanted to try it. The chocolate was amazing, put See's chocolate to shame but boy was it EXPENSIVE we are talking like a 1.25 a piece! After we ate chocolate we decided we would walk around the city which was nice.

We went out to dinner that night at Goodwood with some friends, Adam and Sarah. It was really fun to catch up. Needless to say we had a great first weekend of the summer. Jeff is back to working full time. This week he is actually working almost 50 hours.

OHHHHH I forgot last week our dear friend Vanessa and her son Thomas visited. Thomas is 7 months older then Evelyn and he is a TALL boy.

PIG TAILS!!!

That's right every one at 7 1/2 months old Evelyn can rock some pretty awesome pig tails! Her Daddy LOVES them, and so do I! I can't believe I can already style her hair...they grow up so fast.

Also, I am blog retarded how do you post a picture in the middle of your post? I can only do it at the top... kind of annoying.

I also need to get motivated to go the gym. Am I the only who finds it harder to go to the gym when I am not eating well? When I am eating healthy I want to go to the gym, probably because I know the scale will be nice to me, but after graduation I am a little nervous to look! I am only writing this so I will be accountable to go TODAY!

Reeses Cookies

The actual cookie!

Okay, I am only sharing this recipe because if I knew one of my friends had this recipe and DIDN'T share it I would be upset! They are so good and the best thing about them is they taste great a day or even 4 days later. Also, because every one has easter candy left over maybe you can use reeses' to make cookies!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/4 cup flour

15 reeses peanut butter cup minitures

Makes approximately 30 cookies

Directions:

Cream butter, peanut butter, and sugars together with an electric mixer. While mixing add the egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl (salt, baking soda, and flour). Add the dry mixture slowing to the other ingredients. Mix until you can not see any of the flour mixture. Next, take the reeses miniture and take off the wrapper (obviously) and cut the reeses in half! Do this with about 15 minitures. Then form the dough into 1 inch balls. Place half the reeses in middle of the ball and cover the reeses completely with dough. Bake at 375 for 7-9 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes and TASTE HEAVEN!!!

Graduation, Temple Square, and Easter

Evelyn all ready for Graduation

Danner Clan

The Oswell Group!

This was after commencement

The family is gone and the house is really quite once again. Well besides Evelyn's little noises. Graduation was a good experience. I definitley walked for parents. Commencement was fine, a little warm, a little long, but it was cool to see everyone there. Also while walking in we spotted Elder Scott, and my friend Steph was snapping a picture and he noticed...AND...he waved! So that was exciting!

Graduation was very early! It was at 8 AM and we had to be there at 7. I can not tell you anything about the speakers but I can tell you it was so fun to see all my friends graduate and to walk with Jeff. Jeff graduated from the Business school in Business Managment but he walked with me so our family could see both of us graduate. Jeff's parents and brother T.J, and sister Jennifer. Then my parents came as well. Taking pictures after graduation was also fun. After graduation we went to Tucanoes which was amazing! The Brazillian grill is SO good, I could not get enough of the pineapple.

We also went to Temple Square on Saturday because Jeff's brother and sister had not gone before it was so nice and the grounds looked beautiful!

We had so much fun with everyone. And of course Evelyn was the apple of everyones eye! She loved going outside with grandpa Danner and enjoyed all the attention!

Getting ready for company

Jeff and I are graduating on Friday. My parents are coming all the way from Washington, and Jeff's parents and brother and sister are coming too! We are so excited. My parents have not seen Evelyn since Christmas, so she has changed so much since then. Jeff's parents saw her in February but since then she sits, and rolls, and talks (babbles).

I have been busy planning meals for 8 people. Man, I have a whole new respect for people with big families, it's a lot of work and you have to make a lot more food. I'm excited though because I finally have an excuse to make Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Cookies, yep that's right there is a mini reese's inside the cookie. If anyone wants the recipe I'll post it on here.

We have also been busy cleaning, not that I don't clean my apartment but I have been deep cleaning just incase anyone opens the window and looks at the window seal. It is just a good excuse to do cleaning that you have been meaning to do.

In other news Jeff has one more final tonight which is really just a presentation until he is DONE with BYU. It is a little surreal, we are growing up and moving on. Okay, I will post about our wonderful visit after every one leaves.

We have a BLOG!

Oswell Family
Evelyn Mae Oswell

Okay so I have actually had this blog for over a month, but I just have not written anything. I didn't think my life was interesting enough, or funny enough, or cool enough frankly. However, there are a few people out there who may want to know about my life. I have a little ADORABLE girl, Evelyn. I have been married for 2+ years to Jeff. We currenltly live in Orem, Utah but will be moving to Vegas soon for Dental school. Yes, that is right I am a "Mormon Sterotype." I graduated in Elementary Education (sterotype #1), my husband was a business major (sterotype #2) and he is going to dental school ( sterotype #3). Not to mention I LOVE cooking, baking, scrapbooking, crafting, and shopping. ( sterotype 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) Now I have a blog so that should be #9! But it's okay I have come to terms with it all.

However, probably like every one else I feel like I'm different and unique in my own way. Okay so I have started a blog... what to talk about. Let's get down and honest. So this weekend Jeff had a HUGE group project and was gone for like 6 hours on Saturday and I was bored so what did I do... Evelyn and I went to the Mall, naturally. I wasn't going to buy anything but then I found a cute dress at Forever 21, and it was only $11.50, so what did I do I bought it. Side note: this would not seem like a big deal to ANY one else but we are POOR...really poor but what is a girl to do when she has Nordstroms taste with a Target budget (it's probably more like walmart, but I'm still in denial) Okay back to the story I bough the dress and I didn't tell Jeff and Evelyn can't talk so I was in the clear. THEN relief society talks about honesty...I felt guilty the WHOLE time so I finally told Jeff and luckily he wasn't mad. Why wasn't he mad probably because I told him after I had fed him a delicious dinner, cookies were in the oven, and we were cuddling. So here is the lesson timing is everything! No, not really the lesson really is it is just better to be honest, and it helped that he liked the dress and it was only $11.50. So that is my first super random post!

Other facts: Evelyn is 7 months old, she was a month early so a little behind, sits, rolls, laughs, smiles big. Likes: sweet potatoes, carrots, bananans, and anything we are eating.
